In this video, Book and Paper Conservator, Ashleigh Schieszer, and Sr.
Conservation Technician, Catarina Figueirinhas, are carefully lining an 1863
Cincinnati business map (from the Public Library's collection) with kozo fiber
tissue. They had previously removed the prior cloth lining and the residual
adhesive from this lining by washing the map and mechanically removing the
adhesive. They also humidified and locally flattened the map to try to
reduce creases caused when the map was previously lined with cloth.
The Preservation Lab is a collaboration between
the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and the University of
Cincinnati Libraries.
