This is a video that provides step-by-step instructions on how to make a protective non-adhesive paper slipcase at home. This simple, easy-to-make slipcase can offer protection to books on your bookshelves that might be falling apart, have detaching boards, or are fragile. The Preservation Lab recommends using archival paper to create your slipcase and storing your book with the fore edge facing out (instead of the spine) - to further prevent light damage/discoloration.
These instructions are presented by Catarina Figueirinhas, a Senior Conservation Specialist in the Preservation Lab. This video is presented in conjunction with a Facebook live event called
"Preserving Your Personal Library"; co-hosted by the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and the University of Cincinnati Libraries.
